On Saturday 30th April 2016, a sixteen-strong team from Worthing-based company Homewise took on Mount Snowdon.
At 3,560 feet high, Snowdon is one of the highest mountains in the British Isles, and the team walked a grand total of 7,120 feet in driving rain, freezing sleet and knee-deep snow in order to raise money for Mind, the UK’s leading mental health charity.
Mind provides advice and support to empower anyone experiencing a mental health problem, campaigning to improve mental health services, raise awareness and promote understanding. It’s because of Mind that millions of people now have access to the advice and support they need, but demand for Mind’s support is growing. In fact, one if four people in the UK will suffer from a mental health problem every year.
So far, Homewise has raised an incredible £4,332. This is enough to send 13,000 information leaflets, answer 541 phone calls from people looking for advice and support, or pay for 288 people suffering from a mental health problem to be able to take part in a group therapy session. It’s an incredible amount of money and an amazing achievement, but the Homewise team are still some way away from their target of £7,120 - £1 for every foot walked.
Justin Neal, Director of Homewise, and one of the team that conquered Snowdon, said:
“We have a long history of charity fundraising here at Homewise, but it’s safe to say this was the most physically and mentally trying challenge we’ve taken on to date. For people with a mental health problem, every day can feel like a constant battle, and thousands of people every day struggle to get the help that they desperately need. The money we’ve raised for Mind means that more people will get the support that they need at the time that they need it. Any donation, no matter how small, could make a massive difference to someone suffering from a mental health problem.”
