How to filter your search results on Rightmove and Zoopla

Rightmove and Zoopla are the two biggest online property portals and if you’re house hunting at the moment, chances are you will be very familiar with them indeed! However, what you might not know is that both portals have a very powerful filter tool that can really help to streamline and refine your search. Specifically, if you’re not over sixty and retirement property adverts (like ours) aren’t relevant to you, you can use this filter tool to easily stop seeing these ads. Here’s how you do it.

On Rightmove

Once you’ve searched for properties in your area, click the ‘Filters’ button in the top right hand side of your screen.

This will then open your filter options. To stop seeing retirement properties, for example, click ‘Don’t Show: Retirement Home’. Or to only see properties being sold by auction,  make ‘Auction Property’ a must have.

On Zoopla

On the home page, once you’ve put your search details in, click ‘Advanced search options’.

You’ll see that there’s a section that says ‘Include’. To stop seeing retirement properties, all you need to do is untick the ‘Retirement homes’ box then click search.

Zoopla also has a fantastic keyword search tool – this lets you search for properties with specific features that you’re looking for. So, you could search for homes with conservatories or fireplaces, for example. It’s a really quick and easy way to find properties that match your requirements.

You can also access the filters from within your search.

So there you have it. How to quickly and easily refine your Rightmove and Zoopla searches to make them more relevant to you. Happy house hunting!
